Abandoned but Not Broken: Aminat’s Journey from young Motherhood to Hope

At just 21, Aminat Abdullateef shares her raw and heartfelt story of being abandoned after getting pregnant, struggling alone to raise her child, and still holding on to the dream of education. In this emotional interview, she opens up about the challenges she’s faced and her deep desire for a second chance, not just for herself, but for her son.

Interviewer: Hello, how are you doing ma?
Aminat: I’m fine sir
Interviewer: Alright, what’s your name and how old are you?
Aminat: My name is Aminat Abdullateef and I am 21 years old.
Interviewer: Alright Aminat, talk to me, What’s going on?
Aminat: Ever since I got pregnant, the person responsible denied the pregnancy and abandoned me. I’ve been on my own since then, with no one to help, just struggling to survive each day. He doesn’t want to see I or the baby ever again.
Interviewer: Alright, what class did you stop ma?
Aminat: JSS2.
Interviewer: Would you like to go back to school?
Aminat: I would really love that.
Interviewer: Why would you like to go to school?
Aminat: I loved studying and I still want to be educated despite what life has thrown at me.
Interviewer: Okay, but then how would you help yourself, why would this time be different?
Aminat: I’ll be more focused and I’ll go regularly.
Interviewer: If you had the opportunity to learn something, how would you stay committed?
Aminat: The same with education, I would go regularly, be punctual and stay focused.
Interviewer: Why didn’t you go back to school after childbirth?
Aminat: There was no one to help me and I didn’t have any money.
Interviewer: What plans do you have for your son?
Aminat: I want my son to be educated and even more educated than I’ll ever be.
Interviewer: Did make any attempt to look for the father of your child?
Aminat: I don’t know any of his family members. I tried looking for him on my own but I couldn’t find him.
Interviewer: Alright Aminat.
